How to Manage Virtualization in 5th Generation Computing?

This is the era of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and Big Data. Everything has been changed with the advancement of the technology, so as the computing. A few decades back, the world of computing was different from as of the current scenario.  Of late, virtualization is considered as a quite common phenomenon.

We are currently in the fourth-generation of computing and going to witness the fifth generation, where things should be done in a smarter way with smarter technology. Virtualization is one of key answers to most the challenges we are facing today.

The fifth generation will enable web-scale workloads such as emerging areas of AI & machine learning, big data and much more. Virtualization is the core aspect of the computing, which has been changed with the changes in the technology advancement.

We have been witnessing the paradigm changes in virtualization since we started using the computer during the first generation. In the fifth generation, the virtualization will be having more features than the current facilities we do have to interact with the systems. It enables software-defined and programmable IT.

The RESTful APIs also referred to as a RESTful web service help to establish communication and integrate systems with one another enabling agility, flexibility and fluidity.  Representational State Transfer (REST) is a logical choice for building APIs that allow users to connect and interact with cloud services. Virtualization is the key component in the current digital and as-a-service economy.

According to IDG Research Services survey, less than 10 percent of the respondents, IT executives, considered that their companies’ data centers and operation were not fully optimized for efficiency and cost-effectiveness. 60 per cent of the responded said defining a data center platform strategy is a top challenge.  90% of IT leaders rate their IT operations below the full optimization level in areas ranging from application workload management to process standardization and team staffing models.

Virtualization comes with some set of challenges that need to be addressed in order to make it user-friendly. Here are top five challenges we will face during the evolving virtualization process.

Security Issues: The first challenge would be coping with the security issues. In the virtual environment, protecting security is the core thing. You need to find the best solutions to protect the privacy as well as the applications. You can’t ignore security issues. You can go for automatic security check all the time. Manually checking the security could be a tough and risky job.

Regular Update of Configuration: Your applications need updates regularly. In a virtual environment, it is not easy to update the configuration all the time, for this you need to develop a model and blueprint, which will update the application, whenever it is required.

Shared Network: Things will go crazy when you have a shared network and workflow is quite high. This will affect the performance of your application and you will face many hassles in a virtual environment. For a better and predictable outcome, you can rely on dedicated network and committed resources.

Capacity Wastage: There are huge chances of wastages of resources in a virtual environment. You need to track the usage of the resources in the environment in order to overcome wastages and optimum utilization of resources. You can start using a tracking system to check the wastage. You can shut down the application those are not in use.

Licensing Models: Licenses are expensive and you need those most for your OS or application. Handling the licensing is quite challenging the virtual environment. You can prefer to choose as-a-service and pick-per-use model of licensing. Which will be cost effective and you’ll pay as per the use.

IDC predicted that 40 percent of the data will be “touched” by the cloud by 2020. IT optimization is the latest buzz in the IT industry; most of the IT leaders are investing and showing interest in the new technologies. Virtualization is going to be the next big thing in IT world as we are heading to use the fifth generation systems and smart technologies.
